For the mum to be.....

Chiropractic treatment during pregnancy ensures your body is optimally balanced, promoting ideal positioning for the baby in utero, and encouraging an easier delivery for both you and your baby. If your spine and pelvis holds any torsion, or misalignment, it is more likely the uterus will be off balance, and your baby may not be able to lie comfortably in the ideal position to descend through the birth canal.

As well as balancing your body to prepare for labour, chiropractic is effective at alleviating low back pain, groin pain and rib pain caused by your growing baby. Chiropractic also helps with symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD), a common symptom of imbalance in the pregnant mother's body.

Treatment is gentle, and involves techniques to encourage realignment of your low back and pelvis, to release the muscles covering and supporting your womb, and to increase the space that the baby has to move around in, encouraging your baby to resettle in the ideal position.

For your baby

The birth process can be one of the most physically traumatic times for a baby. The stresses placed on the young skeleton can cause functional problems in the skull, spine, pelvis or the extremities. These dysfunctions may then interfere with the health of your baby, affecting their physical, emotional and mental development.

Treating babies and infants involves gentle touch over areas of the head and spine. Dysfunction and tensions are released easily. Your baby will feel relaxed and at ease during the treatment.

Chiropractic is the art and science practiced by chiropractors. In many ways chiropractic is similar to physiotherapy and osteopathy as practiced by physiotherapists and osteopaths. Although there is much debate about the difference between Chiropractors and Osteopaths, in reality their approaches have much in common. Physiotherapists who manipulate are also similar to Chiropractors and Osteopaths.
